Server Installation

Note: For single-user site (or Trial Installation), the RBS Server installation will install both the RBS Server and Workstation files.

Follow these steps to install ImproveBuild RBS on a computer that will be used as an RBS Server:
  1. Download the setup files using the link in the email from ImproveBuild Sales\Support.  Depending on whether or not Microsoft SQL Server or SQL Express is already installed on the designated RBS Server, either the IRBS_ServerDB.zip or IRBS_Server.zip will need to be downloaded.
  2. Unzip the IRBS_ServerDB.zip (or IRBS_Server.zip if SQL Server or SQL Express is already installed) file.
  3. Run the IRBS_Server.exe (or IRBS_ServerDB.exe) in the newly uncompressed IRBS_Server folder.
  4. Follow the installation prompts (it is recommended that the defaults are used).
  5. IF SQL Server needs to be installed, the Microsoft SQL Server setup will automaticallystart when all the RBS files has been copied and registered.  This installtion process will take quite a while (a black command line window will be displayed while the setup is in progress - and will disappear when it has completed), s please be patient and let the setup finish completely.
  6. After all the files have been installed, SHARE the IRBS_Server folder and allow all users to have Read\Write access to this folder.
  7. Locate the file appconfig.xml in the RBS Server location (default is <Drive>:\IRBS_Server if the defaults were selected during installation).
  8. Open the appconfig.xml file using NOTEPAD.EXE
  9. Edit the <servername>\\SERVERNAME\IRBS</servername> node, and replace the \\SERVERNAME\IRBS with the name of the SQL Server instance.  Example <servername>Zodiac\IRBS</servername>
  10. Edit the <production>\\SERVERNAME\irbs_server\rbsyssql.mdb</production> node, and replace the SERVERNAME with the name of the computer. Example <production>\\Zodiac\irbs_server\rbsyssql.mdb</production>
  11. Edit the <uid>ACDev</uid> node and replace with a database user that will be used for RBS authentication\Authorization This is only needed if the SQL Server was NOT installed as part of the server setup
  12. Edit the <uidpw>ACDev</uidpw> node and replace with a database user password that will be used for RBS authenticatoin\Autorization.  This is only needed if the SQL Server was NOT installed as part of the server setup

Other Network related setup that needs to be checked and\or configured for multi-user network access.
  1. Open TCP Port 433 for SQL Server communication across the network (Inbound and Outbound).
  2. Open UDP Port 434 for SQL Server communication across the network (inbound and Outbound).
  3. Allow SQL Server application to be accessible over the network.
